Many clients ask about the benefits of hosting their documents with Catalyst whether for review or for cross-enterprise collaboration. It's a question Catalyst enjoys answering. While you buy, customize, install and run similar kinds of systems on your own network, here is what you get when you host with Catalyst.
Access to our Internet Data Center
We keep our servers at ViaWest's state of the art data center. We do so for several reasons. First, our servers are as close to the center of the Internet as you can get. The data center provides high-speed connectivity to multiple Tier 1 Internet backbone providers – like Qwest, Level (3), UUNet, Sprint, etc. If needed, the center can provide speeds of up to OC 48, i.e. 2.4 gigabits per second, with redundant lines and connection points.
Along with high-speed connectivity, the center provides us secure access, climate controlled space, uninterrupted, conditioned power (UPS) and a diesel generator, 24 by 7 network monitoring, and our own secure cage to house our servers. At the least, this would be expensive to replicate in your own offices.
Industrial Strength Servers and Software
We use a combination of 32 and 64 bit servers across our grid. In most cases, we include a redundant servers or hardware devices so that if one fails the user won't be inconvenienced. We use industry standard operating systems with commercial support contracts. All of our choices are made for obvious resaons--speed, power and reliability.
Our storage infrastructure is powerful and specialized. We use industry standard hardware and software to serve files from our central storage units (mirrored SANS and Filer devices. Storage is expandable and is reviewed regularly for performance and capacity.
Industrial Grade Security System
Hosting with Catalyst allows you to take advantage of our security systems and professionals. While security concerns limit what we can say here, we can tell you we use multiple industrial grade firewalls, intrusion monitoring systems, port lockdown, and a host of other schemes to protect your data and documents.
